We are now restructuring the backend team and hiring a strong Backend Lead to take technical ownership and ensure disciplined delivery.
This role is for engineers who:
- Take responsibility for outcomes
- Can manage backend contributors
- Care about demo readiness and production stability
- Think in systems, not tickets
Role Summary
We are seeking a hands-on Backend Lead to take ownership of backend architecture, integration reliability, and delivery discipline.
You will:
- Own backend architecture decisions
- Lead sprint planning with the PM
- Direct backend contributors
- Ensure features work end-to-end in staging and production
- Take accountability for demo readiness
- Resolve integration and queue-processing issues
- Maintain clean environment separation (local → staging → production)
This is not a passive coding role.
This is a delivery ownership role.
Core Responsibilities
- Lead backend planning and sprint breakdown
- Review and approve backend merge requests
- Diagnose and resolve integration failures
- Ensure background workers and queues function correctly
- Enforce logging, error handling, and retry logic
- Maintain API integration standards
- Coordinate closely with frontend for end-to-end delivery
- Drive milestone completion
Technical Stack (Must Have Experience In)
- Python (FastAPI / Django / Flask)
- Background job processing (Celery / Dramatiq / RQ or equivalent)
- Redis (queues & caching)
- Docker / docker-compose
- PostgreSQL or similar relational DB
- Webhook-based integrations (e.g., payment systems)
- Multi-environment deployment practices
What We’re Looking For
- 5+ years backend engineering experience
- Proven production ownership
- Experience leading at least 1 backend team
- Strong debugging and systems thinking
- Clear communicator (technical + non-technical)
- High accountability mindset
- Comfortable working with PM-led milestone structure

Compensation
₦500,000 per month
