Job Summary
- To provide frontline field support to pastoralist farmers by promoting best livestock management practices, facilitating access to fodder and veterinary inputs, and ensuring timely communication between the company and pastoralist communities.
- The PSR serves as the company’s direct link with farmers at the grassroots, ensuring satisfaction, trust, and sustained participation in the pastoralist development programs.
Roles and Responsibilities
Pastoralist Engagement & Relationship Building:
- Maintain close and regular contact with pastoralist farmers within assigned communities.
- Support FSRs in organizing community meetings, sensitization sessions, and training activities.
- Serve as the first point of contact for farmers’ inquiries, feedback, and support requests.
- Foster mutual trust and ensure effective communication between farmers and company representatives.
Livestock Monitoring & Support:
- Track the health, growth, and productivity of animals within participating herds.
- Report disease symptoms, mortality, or unusual livestock conditions to the FSR promptly.
- Support vaccination, deworming, and other animal health interventions organized by the company.
- Encourage improved feeding and husbandry practices among farmers.
Fodder (Feed/Grass) Sales Assistance:
- Promote the use and purchase of company fodder and feed among pastoralist households.
- Record farmer demand and assist in coordinating feed distribution logistics.
- Educate farmers on the benefits of proper nutrition and feeding methods.
Data Collection & Field Reporting:
- Gather accurate field data on livestock numbers, feed sales, and farmer participation.
- Document feedback, challenges, and suggestions from pastoralist communities.
- Submit daily or weekly activity reports to the FSR.
Training & Farmer Mobilization:
- Mobilize farmers to attend company-organized trainings, vaccination drives, and market sensitization programs.
- Support training delivery by translating key messages into local languages when needed.
- Follow up with farmers to ensure they adopt recommended livestock practices.
Conflict and Issue Escalation:
- Identify potential issues or disputes among farmers and escalate them quickly to the FSR.
- Support peaceful resolution and promote cooperation among community members.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Number of pastoralist households engaged
- Quality and timeliness of field data submitted
- Level of farmer satisfaction within assigned communities
- Volume of fodder/feed sales promoted
- Participation rate in trainings and programs
- Reduction in field-level conflicts and complaints
Qualifications and Experience
- OND or equivalent qualification in Animal Health, Agricultural Extension, or related field
- 1–2 years of experience in livestock or community-based work (extension, mobilization, or animal care)
- Ability to communicate effectively in Hausa and/or Fulfulde
- Familiarity with pastoralist or rural community structures is an advantage
