Job Description

The Civil Engineer is responsible for designing, planning, and overseeing construction and maintenance of infrastructure projects. They ensure projects comply with safety standards, regulatory requirements, and engineering best practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed civil engineering designs and specifications for construction projects.
  • Conduct feasibility studies and site investigations to assess project viability.
  • Prepare cost estimates, budgets, and schedules for project execution.
  • Oversee construction activities to ensure compliance with design specifications, safety regulations, and quality standards.
  • Conduct on-site inspections and resolve any structural or technical issues.
  • Ensure timely progress of projects by coordinating with contractors and site teams.
  • Ensure that structures meet safety codes, environmental regulations, and local laws.
  • Perform risk assessments and implement necessary safety measures.
  • Monitor material usage and construction methods to maintain durability and efficiency.
  • Plan and implement preventive maintenance schedules for existing structures.
  • Assess and recommend repairs or upgrades to extend the lifespan of infrastructure.
  • Conduct routine inspections and testing to ensure structural stability.
  • Maintain accurate records of designs, blueprints, project plans, and progress reports.
  • Prepare technical reports and recommendations. 
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory documentation requirements.
  • Work closely with architects, contractors, surveyors, and government agencies.

Requirements

  • 2–5 years’ experience in civil engineering works, site supervision, or infrastructure projects
  • Strong understanding of civil works including foundations, concrete works, steel structures, and basic earthworks
  • Experience supervising contractors and artisans on site
  • Ability to read, interpret, and implement civil drawings and specifications
  • Good knowledge of health, safety, and site compliance requirements
  • Ability to work at remote or field locations and manage multiple site activities
  • Strong reporting, documentation, and communication skills
  • High attention to detail and ability to enforce quality standards

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or HND in Civil Engineering or a related discipline
  • COREN registration or eligibility is an advantage
  • Relevant site supervision or safety certifications are an added advantage
