Role Summary

  • The accountant plays a vital role in managing the company’s financial operations, ensuring accuracy in bookkeeping, compliance with statutory regulations, and timely reporting of financial activities.
  • This role is central to the smooth running of the finance function – handling receivables, payables, reconciliations, and supporting the preparation of financial statements and budgets.

Summary of Responsibilities
Financial Operations & Reporting:

  • Record all financial transactions accurately using Microsoft Excel and accounting software
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports
  • Maintain up-to-date ledgers, journals, and other records
  • Support the month-end and year-end close processes.

Accounts Payable & Receivable:

  • Manage vendor and supplier payments, ensuring timely disbursement
  • Monitor receivables and follow up on outstanding balances
  • Reconcile supplier statements and customer accounts regularly.

Banking & Treasury:

  • Carry out daily bank reconciliation
  • Monitor cash balances and forecast short-term liquidity needs
  • Prepare and process bank transfer instructions and maintain transaction documentation.

Budgeting & Expense Control:

  • Assist with budget preparation and variance analysis
  • Monitor actual expenditures against budget allocations and report discrepancies
  • Ensure appropriate approvals and documentation for all spending.

Regulatory Compliance & Audit Support:

  • Support the preparation and submission of tax returns (VAT, WHT, CIT, etc.)
  • Ensure compliance with financial policies, internal controls and statutory obligations
  • Liaise with external auditors and prepare schedules required for audits.

Documentation and Process Improvement:

  • Maintain an accurate and organized filing system for financial records
  • Contribute to improving internal processes and documentation standards.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (minimum second class upper)
  • 2+ years of practical accounting experience
  • ICAN, ACCA or other recognized professional qualifications (preferred)
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft excel and accounting software (e.g. QuickBooks, Sage, Zoho)
  • Ability to work independently and handle multiple tasks
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong knowledge of Nigerian tax regulations and financial reporting standards
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Integrity, Reliability and Professionalism.
